Sharaf Naghiyeva, born in 1990 in Baku, Azerbaijan, is a contemporary photographer based in Tbilisi, Georgia. She is best known for her minimalistic monochrome photographs that depict the human form, the naked body, and symbolic elements with intentional blur. Working within the medium of contemporary art photography, Naghiyeva's work captures the essence of intimate and introspective moments, offering a profound exploration of presence and perception.
Naghiyeva's photography studies the illusionary nature of life, the subtle presence of the transcendent, alongside themes of self-identity, matriarchy, sustainability, and LGBTQI+ issues. Her work is characterized by a soft and minimalistic approach that removes distractions between the viewer and their perception of reality, bringing them to a meditative state of mind. This allows viewers to notice small details hidden in the emptiness of consciousness, leading to long inner conversations and the rediscovery of forgotten feelings. Important projects such as “What is Real?” and “Your Sun Melted till Being Shapeless Illusion” have enabled Naghiyeva to develop a distinctive language and technique in exploring perceptions of reality.
Sharaf Naghiyeva has exhibited her work in notable venues including KOLGA Tbilisi Photo 2022 and 2024, Artarea Gallery and Novo Gallery, Dissolution Gallery in Tbilisi, Georgia and F37 Space, Baku Photography House, Gazelli Art House in Baku, Azerbaijan. Her work is held in various private national and international collections. Naghiyeva participated in the Black Sea Photo Festival in 2022 and the Kolga Tbilisi Photo Mentorship program in 2024. In 2020, she co-founded the “F37” Photographic Union, where she began her curatorial practices.
